Tips for cushion pairing

As the saying goes, “sometimes the little things are the most important” and it has never been truer than with the cushions you choose to style your home! Best of all, a cushion update is easy to achieve, budget-friendly and the impact can completely transform the look and feel of your space. But how do you choose the right pieces for your space? With so many colours, styles and choices it can feel a little overwhelming, so we’ve brought in our expert in-house stylists to provide some pointers on how to create beautiful cushion pairings, for any style of home.

Stick to a cohesive colour palette

Cushions need to tie into your space as whole, so take a moment to evaluate the colour themes you already have and love and select cushions of similar hues. Once you’ve decided on your colour direction for your cushions you can then add variance through patterns, scale and texture. The goal with your groupings is to have them be complementary but not identical. This is the best way to get that effortless yet elevated look.

Lean into asymmetry

If you’re anything like us, you tend to lean into symmetrical designs, however, in terms of styling, asymmetry produces the best results. Easy ways to do this are to have a different number of cushions on either side of the sofa, and bonus points if they’re odd numbers too. This makes the space look more lived in and therefore more inviting.Pillow Talk how to style cuhsions

Tall to small

This is most certainly an aesthetic tip to show off your beautiful new cushions. Placing your larger cushions at the front will block the other cushions and we certainly don’t want that. A natural decrease in height creates a sense of harmony and order. Something else to consider is to alternate patterns with solid colours or bold patterns with subtle patterns.
