You’ve probably found yourself reaching for an extra layer or two over the last few weeks, with the winter weather really starting to set in, even here in Queensland! While we’re lucky enough to enjoy warmth and sun for many months of the year, we do get oh-so-excited when the mercury drops and we get to ramp up our layering both in our outfits and throughout our homes. By far our favourite layering tool is our styling staple, the throw. More than just a practical addition to keep you warm in the colder seasons, throws elevate any space, from occasional chairs, lounges, baskets, beds and beyond! Read on for help on how to finesse the art of throw styling.
If you’re like us your bed always dons a throw of some form, whatever the season. In winter we like to take our throws a little thicker, heavier, and deeper in colour tone. However, there is no hard and fast rule that says this must be so – as you’ll see shortly. Perhaps one of the most common ways to style you throw, and for good reason, is to drape over the corner of the bed. Providing a relaxed feel it’s the perfect place to experiment with pops of colour.
Below you’ll see a gorgeous winter bedroom featuring a lightweight and soft hue throw that works perfectly in the cooler months. We’ve found the most loved styling of a throw is to place it across the bottom portion of one corner of the bed. This style is so popular for good reason, it’s a gorgeous, quick, easy and a relaxed look.
For something a little more structured, style your throw directly across the bed. You can place this almost anywhere below the fold of the quilt cover. For something a little different place the throw directly under the fold of the quilt.
We love keeping a throw around the living room! They make for the perfect companion in the evening when you turn Netflix on. We love the look of styling them casually across the sofa or in a more structured way on the back of an occasional chair. If you want your throw to be handy but not on display all the time, we suggest you add one to a basket or trunk in the corner of the room.
While easier said than done, try to take a relaxed approach to draping a throw. We love the imperfect look of the drape across the lounge and occasional chair shown below. It’s perfect for that lived-in, luxe look. Don’t forget to tie it all together with the matching cushions too!
We felt we had to highlight extra-large throws in their own way as they are a key trend of winter ’22! Just as oversized scarves were seen across New York fashion week, we’re seeing living rooms filled with large, oversized throws. They’re not only stunning to look at but they’re a practical addition that is perfect for snuggle up under during the winter months.
