There is no correct answer – the ideal filling will vary from person to person. There are a variety factors to consider when choosing the right pillow filling – depending on your specific needs for softness, firmness and cost. Natural down and feathers are often touted as the most luxurious options, but these may not suit every budget. Your best bet is to conduct some research and decide what matters most to you. Is it softness? Density? Cost-effectiveness for the entire family? Make sure you know what you want in a pillow and of course, feel free to give our friendly customer service team a call or head into store for additional advice.
Synthetic pillows are made from man-made fibres including polyester and microfibre. Synthetic pillows are ideal for anyone with allergies as they are machine-washable. These pillows are lightweight and are available in a number of profiles and densities.
Memory foam is a pressure-relieving sponge-like material that moulds to the natural contours and curves of your body, relieving pressure points and maintaining correct spinal alignment. Memory foam is temperature-sensitive and therefore will be firmer in cooler temperatures and softer in warmer temperatures. Zip off covers make for easy cleaning and dispels dust mites, bacteria, mold and mildew.
Latex is a natural fibre and is produced from the sap of a rubber tree. The natural properties of latex make it antimicrobial, hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, mold and bacteria. There are two types of latex: Talalay (bounce foam) and Dunlop (springy foam).
Another natural fibre, down grows under the outer protective layer of feathers. The down clusters are resilient and fluffy with no quill, and are extremely light with superior loft. As a rule, the higher percentage of down, the loftier and more supportive the pillow will be. In the same way, the higher percentage of feather, the firmer the pillow is.
Wool blend pillows are blended with synthetic fibres, creating loft and strengthening the wool fibres, adding firmness to the pillow. A wool blend pillow keeps the face and neck cool, dry and comfortable.
