When creating your look, you want it to feel balanced, and the easiest way to achieve this is through symmetry. Splitting your table into quadrants allows you to compartmentalise your styling, and allows you to create balance in each area. Also think of having one dominate central object such as a plant or sculpture and then displaying two smaller items below it. The surrounding objects need not be identical they just need to balance other in terms of size and tone.

Composition

For most people the idea of creating the perfect composition can be daunting. We suggest starting with an idea and then building from there. This means that everything on the table will feel cohesive and tell the same story. You can then bring this story to life through your styling. Connect your pieces through colour, style and shapes. If you’re still feeling a little lost, use a tray. Place the tray in the centre of the table and style the pieces on top of this. This will give the table a focus point and visually makes the connection between the items.

Personality

Perhaps our favourite tip of coffee table styling! It’s simple, let the objects on your coffee table tell a story about your passions and memories. Be it a seashell from a beach trip with the family or a special candle your grandmother gave you. When you make it uniquely yours the ways to style your coffee table or endless. Remember our first point though, to not over clutter, so that it remains a functional piece of furniture. If there is more you’re wanting to show you can rotate pieces out, this allows you to showcase your memories as well as keep the look fresh.
