How to style a coffee table

The coffee table is usually a central point of your living area, not only visually but usually physically. For this reason, we want to be sure it’s looking stylish, however, it’s important that is also functions in the way it’s supposed to. The aim is to style your coffee table in a way that aesthetically looks gorgeous but also doesn’t disrupt the flow of both the room and it’s functionally. Mastering the art of coffee table styling is easy with these 3 simple tips.

Balance

When creating your look, you want it to feel balanced, and the easiest way to achieve this is through symmetry. Splitting your table into quadrants allows you to compartmentalise your styling, and allows you to create balance in each area. Also think of having one dominate central object such as a plant or sculpture and then displaying two smaller items below it. The surrounding objects need not be identical they just need to balance other in terms of size and tone.

Composition

For most people the idea of creating the perfect composition can be daunting. We suggest starting with an idea and then building from there. This means that everything on the table will feel cohesive and tell the same story. You can then bring this story to life through your styling. Connect your pieces through colour, style and shapes. If you’re still feeling a little lost, use a tray. Place the tray in the centre of the table and style the pieces on top of this. This will give the table a focus point and visually makes the connection between the items.
