Ever wondered how hotels seem to nail the sophisticated, luxurious and cloud-like comfort bedding every time? From fluffed pillows to crisply folded bed linen sheet sets and the perfect statement cushion to tie it together, hotels have a unique way of preparing their bed to make it a luxurious experience to dive into after a long day of travelling or exploring.
But how can we recreate this premium level of comfort and refinement in our own homes? How can you make your bed look like a hotel? As the comfort experts, we pride ourselves on our knowledge and expertise in all things bedding. So, Pillow Talk’s in-house stylists have some simple steps you can implement into your at-home bedding to level up your linens for the ultimate luxe look:
One of the benefits of staying at a hotel is how comfortable the bed is. From the moment you lay down on the mattress there is a signature soft, yet supportive feeling that is the epitome of luxury.
For a combination of balance and support, hotels use a medium to firm mattress to provide spinal alignment and pressure relief while accommodating a range of sleep preferences and positions. But how can you achieve the same signature hotel style at home?
Before rushing out to replace your mattress, a mattress topper may be the answer! Mattress toppers are an extra layer of fill that is placed on top of a mattress to make it more comfortable and supportive. This can re-create that hotel-inspired feeling of sleeping on a cloud!
To recreate the signature hotel style at home, we recommend investing in a mattress topper that matches your sleep preferences from sumptuously soft to medium and firm. This will help to increase your own sleep quality and make your sleep as comfortable as it is on your trips away To find the right mattress topper for your needs and sleep style, check out our mattress topper buying guide here!
Top Tip: To pick the perfect mattress topper to achieve the hotel-inspired style, it is important to take into account your personal tastes. This, in turn, will create a cosy, comfortable and luxurious hotel-inspired bed suited to you.
Unlike the standard bedding we have at home, hotels take it to the next level with high-quality bedding and materials crafted from lightweight, breathable and silky materials. Not only does this look rich, opulent and luxurious with a mix of textures and layers, but it transforms your bedtime ritual as you slip under the soft and crisp sheets to drift off for a good night’s sleep.
To achieve this bedding look, hotels will use a high thread-count sheet set typically crafted from percale cotton as it creates that signature cool and crisp feeling on the skin. These are also used by hotels as percale sheets don’t pill as easily and are very simple to care for with little to no ironing required.
Whilst percale cotton is still a staple for its longevity and durability, more boutique hotels will use sateen or pure cotton sheets with a high thread count, such as our 1000 thread-count sheets This is due to their breathability and longevity and is a particularly popular choice for warmer climates.
At Pillow Talk, our Hotel At Home bedding collection features premium sheet sets that are used in luxurious hotels and can also be used to make your bed look like a hotel at home.
Top Tip: The triple sheeting method is another popular tip for making your bedding look like it came straight from a luxury hotel. This method involves using a fitted sheet over the mattress, a flat sheet and other flat top sheet on top that covers the blanket or duvet. The aim of this method is to create a crisp and neatly made bed with ultimate comfort.
A signature of creating a hotel bed at home is the fluffy and voluminous pillows that make you want to dive straight into bed!
To achieve this, hotels use down, feather, or down-alternative microfibre pillows to create the iconic light and freshly fluffed look. To arrange the pillows like a hotel, use four standard size pillows for a dreamy, full, and luxurious look.
Also, be sure to purchase pillows that align with your mattress size too! For king beds, there are specific king-size pillows and the same with queen size beds. This allows you to make the most of your bedding with perfectly proportioned pillows to your mattress.
At Pillow Talk, our ‘Hotel At Home’ collection features a range of hotel-like pillows to elevate your sleep experience and achieve the ultimate layered bedding look.
Top Tip: For an extra layer of luxury, add two European pillows stacked behind two standard-size pillows and a small oblong cushion in the centre of the pillow arrangement as a style statement.
One of the main visual elements of a hotel bed is the soft, lofty and voluminous quilt that creates that freshly made luxurious look that we all know and love. But how do hotels achieve the perfect fluffy quilt style?
Most hotels use a feather-down quilt or a down alternative quilt to create this cloud-like quilt look. When recreating this style at home, be sure to select a quilt with the waffle-stitching style. This looks like square boxes that divide the fill of the quilting into perfectly proportioned sections to make sure that the fill stays evenly spread while you sleep and style your sanctuary.
Pillow Talk’s ‘Hotel At Home’ collection has a hand-picked range of quilts that can make your bed look like it came straight from a luxury hotel!
Top Tip: If your quilt is looking a little lacklustre, try layering two quilts together in your quilt cover for the ultimate fluffy quilt look!
A key aspect of making your bed look like a hotel is how you fold and tuck the bedding. At hotels, each bed is neatly made and perfectly folded with crisp lines which contributes to the look of a luxurious bed.
To achieve this at home, make sure your bedding is free from creases. This includes ensuring the flat sheet is neatly folded with hospital corners, the top sheet is neatly folded and peeking out over the quilt cover and the pillowcases are neatly arranged.
Top Tip: Hotels often use hospital corners to create a clean and crisp-looking bed. To do this, take the end of the quilt cover and fold it over the side of your mattress to create a 45-degree angle. Tuck the excess quilt cover under the mattress and you’re done!
