The world of our in-house designers is one of a little mystery. Continually crafting and creating designs for the seasons ahead, we thought it was time to pull back the curtain and go behind the scenes to see how our stunning Wisteria Quilt Cover Set came to life! Textile Designer Tori Bishop has been with Pillow Talk for over 3 years and has been the creative eye behind many of our most memorable prints, including the Wisteria.
Q. Where did your inspiration come from for the Wisteria design?
I came up with the idea as my own wisteria (which I was given as a sapling from my grandmother’s garden) had a growth spurt and I was waiting for it to bloom! It never did flower that spring, so the pressure is on for this spring now that it is more established and flourishing. I’ve always loved the soft dropping shape of the flowers and thought it might be nice to try an expressive style of painting the delicate blooms.
Q. How long did it take to complete the design?
I painted the flowers and leaves in an afternoon at my dining room table, using acryclic paints. Then, after scanning in the motifs, I pieced the design together on the computer over the course of a day, playing with the softness and layout so it felt like the wisteria display I have been waiting for along my verandah here in Brisbane!
Q. How long does the entire creative process take from design to final product?
I started working on this print in September last year. Generally it takes between 6-9 months to develop a design from initial concept through to the final product arriving in stores. Sometimes the sample doesn’t come back looking how you had imagined, so it can take a few tweaks to get it just right.
